Well it appears the hopes of keeping the corona virus contained have come crashing down around us. Be honest, even reading this now its hard to believe, tens of thousands of people world wide are being infected with this deadly virus in some places having a fatality rate of 3%. putting that into perspective that is 3 in every hundred. 3million every hundred million.

Should we be worried?

Worried? if the media had its way we would all stay worried morning, noon and night. worry is not something i would ever suggest, worry can lead to all sorts of other problems, quite frankly in the midst of tense geopolitical situations and the stock markets suffering on top of a global epidemic we don’t need any extra issues.

In saying that, i would also like to say being prepared couldn’t hurt.

If Italy can be used as an example, store shelves are clearing out like crazy. I know I don’t want to be left fighting over the last can of spam.

What should you do to prepare?

I have made a list of things I recommend having in case of an epidemic or any natural disaster one would need to prepare for.

  • Water – one gallon of water per person per day for at least three days, for drinking and sanitation.
  • Food – at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food.
  • Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert.
  • Flashlight.
  • First aid kit.
  • Extra batteries.
  • Respirator
  • a few 5 gallon buckets
  • Duct Tape
  • seeds
  • indoor led lights (for indoor farm)
  • powdered supplements

I wrote an article on how to set up a micro-greens indoor farm the cheapest and easiest way.  smartmindbodysoul.com/microgreens if you want to go the extra step and be prepared for the possibility of spending weeks if not months in your home or in my case I live in a third story apartment. I will not be in a position to have an outdoor garden. Indoor farming may be the only option for food if an outbreak occurs and grocery stores close down like they are in China.

Even if you don’t plan to grow microgreens, the set up can be used for any vertical grow operations. I went and had delivered seeds that i can grow quickly in case of the need for immediate food. What if the Grid goes down?

A very important obstacle people in the city tend to over look is  electricity. hense why batteries are essential. but what to do with the batteries?

What would you do if your electricity shuts down and you cant use your stove? your refrigerator.  no hot water. How are you going to boil water?

If you are in my position, you cant have a fire in your apartment. what if you don’t have a barbecue?

I took it upon myself  to stack up on dried goods and canned meat with high sodium for long term storage and to cut down on the need for energy to cook. but as for the case of boiling water i have gotten a small hot plate that i can use by using battery power. You need to be able to boil water! not only for sanitary drinking water. For canning, in case of long term lock down, For bathing, for cooking.

Do not fail at maintaining the possibility of boiling water!

Stay bunkered down!

this isnt The walking Zombie shows you watch, this is real life, and you have to face reality and your neighbors after this potential threat has passed. So don’t go pillaging. Respect your neighbors and dont eat their food or steal from their trees that over hang on the street. their family needs to eat too. take this time to prepare if you have not already done so. Nobody is going to do it for you. There are many things i have left out because i do not want to beat a dead horse. i just wanted to do my part in sharing some of my ideas and hope that i can help ease some worry by helping you prepare so that you are not faced with panic when everyone starts heading for your local grocery stores and you were not prepared. Language, how words shape our reality.

when you hear the word language people often tend to think spoken cultural communication differences. such as Spanish, English, French. but most seldom think deeper into what other forms of lingo are hiding in the background. The way that we communicate to one another, to the things around us, have a direct impact on our results in life.

I personally am a lover of plants. I form a relationship with my plants through a non verbal communication. I need something from them. food, herbs, the piece and tranquility they give me when I till the soil that they eat and breath from. just as they need food, water, light and love from me in order to produce these things for me. we have this symbiotic relationship because we understand each others needs and produce for one another based on our understanding of each others language. for example, I know when my plants need water. not because they invented a new plant language, or because I speak to plants, ( I do talk to them) but because they have a way of communicating if you just pay attention .If they have too much nitrogen their leaves fall off, too little nutrients they turn yellow, too little light they are pale. Different forms of communication based on what they are exposed to and what they are lacking.

people are the same way. not everyone is going to speak the same language.  this doesn’t mean we can not communicate effectively. take this article or public writing in general as another example.

I started writing in hopes of finding a way to solve big problems and make a positive impact on the world while finding a way to make money at home so I can raise my two kids. The topics that I focus on are things that people can do to live a healthier, better more fulfilling or easier life. I offer researched information and links to products that are intended to help. My intention is also to make money. through the process of educating people to the best of my ability as well as try and sell a product, sincerity sometimes gets lost in the wind. how? you might ask.

Communication!

when speaking through a platform that reaches the entire world some things are bound to slip by or not be heard by everybody. which is fine, however it is important to not be offensive. The best way to not offend someone is to understand how they communicate. no matter how hard you try you will never be able to make everyone happy no matter what language or way you choose to communicate. some people just want to be nasty. You can choose to be nasty back to them which will effect your integrity and thus effect the way others view you, or you can choose to continue to try and learn what it is these people are seeking and try to fulfil their urge without sacrificing your personal rights as a human being.

lets look at a scenario where words have the potential to convey a separate feeling than intended.

Take the phrase “Calm Down” one would think by saying calm down to another person would convey to that person they might be acting irrationally and should do some self reflection and maybe calm down. Simple right? You wish.  to a person that speaks a logical language maybe this might work. For an emotional person this small harmless phrase could be considered an attack, an insinuation that they are acting crazy and are in the wrong somehow. You have now caused the opposite effect of what you have intended. instead of a calm person, your words have created a very not calm person who feels the need to defend themselves against persecution. A better way to have a person calm down, if in fact they are acting irrationally, would be to find an understanding as to why they are upset and come to a common solution to prevent any further friction between each other.

That is how sensitive language is. in relationships of any kind there is always give and take. lets take the language of love. you can love someone with all of your heart and do everything in your power with the knowledge you have to do what you think they need to be happy and they still can potentially never be. and inevitably leave. not because of you. because you were not speaking their language.

In the book The 5 Love Languages (Robert Kiyosaki) writes about the 5 languages of love. he states ” Unhappiness in marriage often has a simple root cause: we speak different love languages, believes Dr. Gary Chapman. While working as a marriage counselor for more than 30 years, he identified five love languages: Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Receiving Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch.  it is important that we as beings focus on what emotional, social, spiritual, physical language everything and everyone communicates with because it is the direct connection to the results we are seeking and to the results that we get.

effective communication is key to any success we seek in life, weather it be love, botony, business, or for me all three. if I switch from my plants and think about my business as a living breathing organism that within involves many parts, all with their own languages yet all need a symbiotic communication to survive, the chance of its survival would be much greater, and the fruits nuch mire rewarding.

It is obvious that we as humans must communicate in order to accomplish goals. What about the planet its self?

Do you take extra effort in finding our planets way of communication? Or do you trample upon it with no regard?

Everything has a voice and everything has a need that is required to be met based upon how it communicates. Pay attention and your needs will be met with reciprocation.

Don’t t let anybody stop you from doing what you believe in. Including yourself.

How many times have you heard one of your friends dads drunk story about how they invented something that you were using, or something on tv. Or how you yourself wanted to invest in something. Bitcoin, marijuana stocks, or a peice of property you wanted to buy ten years ago when you had the money and you heard its now valued at ten times what you could have paid for it. These stories and experiences are all to frequent. The upsets are traumatic, most people dont make it through their first huge failure Or never forgive themself for “missing their big chance” .

I have failed many big attempts at escaping the status quo. I started a construction remodeling company and broke even, shut down shop the first 6months.. Started a dropshipping company online called smartwireless.com. Didnt make a single sale. I continue to lose and gain in the stock market. I have tried my own window washing company, i also have had many other small ventures that never really stuck. Its really hard being an entrepreneur. People look at your failures as stupidity or improper focus. People who are stuck in the rat race can not figure out why you would take that money you worked hard for and risk it all on an idea. Or dont have the fortitude or the understanding of why you take the only time before and after work to work on something that isnt making you any money.  It is difficult to push passed the constant bombardment of the majority telling you how hard it is or how expensive its going to be. Its cumbersome holding the weight of statistics that say 80 percent of businesses fail in their first Year. Its like trudging through lead moving through failure after failure somehow making it to each tasteless destination to find your travels were moot. That is why everyone is not wealthy. Its a miserable learning curve, especially for those with little to begin with. This is why it is so hard to succeed. People just want to stay comfortable. Complacent with their “things” their safe investment 401k and their 60 year work 20 year live on a fixed income retirement plan. Never making that self scooping cat litter box they came up with that would have made them millions. Or never opening up that antique shop, instead worked in a trade they could not stand for a person that does not appreciate them. I want to share with you the reality that these failures in life are not the end of your potential for success. They are a nudge forward. The same as learning that fire  is hot. Some lessons are painful but without the pain of being burnt you could risk catastrophe. lacking the knoledge and experience. Through pain you learn the nesseccary tools to prevent the same mistake down the road when it really matters.

What is it that you wish to accomplish in your life?

I have struggled with this question a lot myself. What do i want to accomplish? Or what do i want to do. The answer for me has been many times nothing.

In reality, what do i want to wake up and HAVE to do to survive? Not a thing. Id love to be able to do many things. But i have a hard time with what i can do that im passionate about.

Our dreams are the life-blood of our existence. Our dreams and aspirations fuel us with a true purpose and a deeper meaning inspiring us to share our gifts to the world. What we desire to create warms our heart, fires up our resolve, and clarifies our mind through an esteemed vision that fuels us within.

Everything begins at first as a seed, a bud that we nurture to full blossom. Through the mosaic of our minds we are given divine flashes of insight and sparks of poetic beauty that we get to mold and shape. Our dreams are a reflection of who we are at our most brave and courageous. I dream about a nice peice of property and plants and animals but i also dream of huge gardens and solving world problems and having a positive influence. I am passionate about clean water and healthy food for everyone. I dont think youve ever seen a man look at dirt the way i do my soil.I believe in that. Now how am i gonna get there? That is the question.

How are you gonna get there?

What are you willing to put off today in order to get to where you wanna be? What are you willing to do extra. And im not talking about just one thing an hour a day like a chore. What thing will you be willing to do for 4 to 6 hours on top of what you are already doing every day to make those goals. Most people dont have it in them. I am just convincing myself as of latlety that i have it in me. Because i am doing extra. I am going for my dreams. Im picking up other peoples dreams. I want to see everyone become successful if what they are doing helps people. All it comes down to is work ethic.

People who possess a strong work ethic embody certain principles that guide their work behavior, leading them to produce high-quality work consistently and the output motivates them to stay on track. A good work ethic fuels an individual’s needs and goals, it is related to the initiative by a person for the objectives. It is considered as a source of self respect, satisfaction, and fulfillment. Once you find the thing you enjoy that you are good at run with it. Work like your life depends on it. Like your happiness depends on it. Important things to strive for are

  1. Goal-oriented actions: it is not about making plans or the next logical steps; it’s about getting things done so that the work invested wouldn’t be counter-productive.
  2. Prioritized focus: focusing on qualitative activities that a person is capable and in areas where they can make a difference or a high impact based on objectives.
  3. Being available and reliable: spending time on the work and building oneself up for the task.
  4. Conscientiousness: a desire to do a task well, being vigilant and organized.
  5. Creating a rewarding routine/system: Engaging in tasks that provide strength and energy which can be transferred to your ultimate goals, creating a habit and a habitat for success.
  6. Embracing positives just be happy where you are.. chose to see the way it can help you not how its harming you.
  7. .Set daily goals for yourself.
  8. Take risks and chase success.
  9. Surround yourself with successful people.
  10. Be focused on your goals and make your life goal oriented.
  11. Imagine and visualize yourself being successful.
  12. Make a plan or blueprint for success.
  13. Be spontaneous and listen to your gut.

Jump toward your dreams before its too late. I would rather listen to my gut or my instinct than someone who doesnt have what i want. Thats why its important to have a mentor. I have a few people i gain motivation from. There is no debate whether or not im into growing ones own food. Ive written multiple articles on growing your own food. Well here is some info about growing your own mushrooms and the multiple benifits it has. Mushroom growing is very easy if you know exactly what you’re doing, and it’s not difficult to learn the different steps involved in the process. Now, the basics of preparing growth medium and containers has been covered elsewhere, but the actual basics of how to plant and care for mushrooms will be covered in detail in the course of this article.
You will most likely buy mushroom spores or spawn when you first learn to grow mushrooms, and before you learn to harvest the spores from mushroom caps for yourself. Now, there are two types of this spawn available. It is available in flakes, but it is also available in bricks as well. How you plant the spores or spawn depends on what sort that you buy. I would suggest, if you’re thinking of planting mushrooms regularly, that you buy and plant both types, and see what works better for you.

If you buy and plant both types, there are very different methods of planting them. The bricks need to be broken into chunks, each about one inch in diameter. These chunks are put into the growing medium, spaced about half a foot  from each other. You need to make holes about an inch or two deep before you put these chunks in. Flakes are mixed right into the growth medium. Take about a quart of these flakes and spread them over fifteen square feet, and continue until you have the growth medium evenly covered. You need to mix these into the growth medium while doing this.

Make sure that the flakes are not visible on the surface of the growth medium. Whether you use chunks or flakes, the next steps to mushroom growing are the same. You spray a mist of water on to the mixture regularly, and keep it in the dark. Soon the mushroom spawn will begin to put out mycelia, which are the fungal version of roots. Once these are out, the mushrooms will really start to grow. As a matter of fact, in time you will see an intricate web of these pale white mycelia form.

Slightly increasing the temperature to about sixty five degrees Fahrenheit in this time will encourage growth. Remember to water daily. In a few weeks you should be able to see the mushrooms. You should not water in the period between when the mushrooms appear and the harvest. You can harvest mushrooms when they are either very small, or when they mature. Just use a sharp knife to harvest each mature mushroom, and there’ll soon be another mushroom growing in its place.Mushroom Growing 4 You

If you have some spare area in an outhouse or even in your cellar or garage, you can utilize it for mushroom growing, which are tasty, nutritious and a great source of organic protein. Once you have your trays, fill them with growth mixture and add in mushroom spore or spawn flakes, which are easily available in gardening stores, or on the internet. Water the mixture carefully, and the mushrooms will start putting out their mycelia, which is a sort of fungal root. Once this happens, keep watering at least twice a day, preferably with a mist-spray, until the young mushrooms start to appear. Once you reach this point, you need to stop watering while the mushrooms mature. Once they reach the size that you need, you can harvest them. This is all you need to know to go in for mushroom growing.

You might think that growing them is bound to be difficult, but if you learn a little more about the subject, you’ll understand just how easy and simple it is to grow mushrooms. How you go about mushroom growing can directly impact how successful (or not) you are at growing them, of course. If you go into this without sufficient information, you may end up with a lot of wasted effort. Because the simple fact of the matter is that it’s extremely easy to grow mushrooms. You just have to do things right. To start with, it’s best not to use mushroom spores directly.

While it’s possible to buy mushroom spores, these spores are actually so tiny that they’re microscopic. This means that they can be quite difficult to handle, at least until you get used to things. You can also harvest spores from mature mushrooms, simply by cutting the cap off and placing it on a large sheet of paper or on a sheet of glass. However, I would advise against using spores, not only because they are inconvenient to handle (a single breath of wind will scatter them all over the house or yard), but also because they’re vulnerable to contamination, and if they contaminated with spores from wild, poisonous mushrooms, the consequences could be disastrous.

Preventing contamination is also the reason why it is recommended that you always go in for mushroom growing indoors. Indoor growing greatly reduces the chances that a few wild spores might come to rest in your mushroom beds, and grow up among your safe mushrooms. If the mushrooms that grow from the wild spores turn out to be poisonous, it could cause serious problems for anyone who eats them. And that’s just one reason why you shouldn’t grow mushrooms outdoors.

Another reason is that the growth medium is so rich that a lot of germs and unhealthy algae and fungi can start to grow in it if it’s left in an open environment. In a closed environment, things are more controlled, and this means that your mushrooms can be relied upon to not only not be poisonous, but also not to carry any disease producing pathogens. Of course, you will wash the mushrooms before cooking them, but considering the growth medium that mushrooms grow in, it’s better to be safe than sorry. These are just a few tips that you can use to help you with your mushroom growing.

What you’ll need for large-scale mushroom growing
This article will tell you about all the different things you’ll need if you want to go in for mushroom growing on a large scale. This will take a little trouble, but if you do it right, will ensure that your family always have fresh, organically grown mushrooms, a food both nutritious and exceedingly high in protein. I can see that you’re already interested, so let’s just cut to the chase. Now mushrooms can take a week or two to grow, or sometimes even more, depending on the richness (or otherwise) of the growth medium.

As such, you’ll want to ensure that you have the most mushrooms growing at once, because this means that you’ll have a regular supply for your loved ones, or to distribute among acquaintances, or even to put up for sale. You’d be surprised at the amount of people who are interested in buying fresh, organically grown mushrooms. Now the first thing you need to arrange is a room in which to do your growing. Don’t put this right in your home if you’re going to do some large scale growing, though the basement might be an acceptable place if you can maintain the temperature.

At this stage of mushroom growing, you need to make sure that the temperature remains within ten degrees of fifty five degrees Fahrenheit, so if your basement gets much colder than that, you’d have problems growing mushrooms there. If you can maintain the temperature, however, it might be an ideal place to grow mushrooms. If you have an outhouse, garage, or barn, they might also be nice places in which to grow mushrooms. There’s one more thing that’s needed besides a stable temperature range, and that is an absence of light. Mushrooms don’t like light, period, so if you choose a place that you can keep completely dark, they’ll be more likely to grow successfully.

Lastly, you need to keep the wind out – mushrooms don’t like winds either, especially if they carry any chill along with them, and if you put them in windy places, don’t be surprised to find your mushrooms dying after a draught. However, you can just put them in closed boxes with removable lids, and if you do this, they should be fine so long as you maintain the temperature and humidity. Mushrooms in the early stages of growing love lots of water, though once they sprout you’ll need to push back on the humidity a little. Spores, growth medium and even trays to plant mushrooms in are available everywhere, and mushroom growing is very much easier than most people think.

New Year New Lifestyle!

Its 2019!

Are you ready to take your life back after those mean old holidays? forcing you to eat prime rib, Turkey, twice baked potatoes. Pumpkin pie.. I probably ate 5 pies to myself since Thanksgiving.

I fell way behind in my diet. But there is good news in that. Now i have a new goal. I was too busy trying to be perfect that I didn’t feel I had any room to improve. Jokes on me. So know that you’re not alone.

The 1st of January is always an exciting time. Its really just another day, but with it brings motivation, it brings a feeling of new things to come and a feeling as if we can just wash away the mistakes of yesteryear. As we turn the page into 2019 what kind of things are you washing away? Better yet, what type of things are you gaining? What lessons did you learn? And what ACTIONS are we going to take this next year that will define the new you? Are your goals financial? Or do you want to lose weight? Become a better mother or father? Be a more loving partner? Maybe its something small like cutting out soda from your diet. Or something huge like cutting out drugs and alcohol?. What ever your new year resolution may be i know you can do it.

If you want to achieve your goal its going to take action!

I used to be a hardcore alcoholic, depending on ones perspective i still am, I havn’t drank since. Aug 28th 2018.

I never thought I was going to quit drinking. My family and friends were all prepared for me to die in the hospital from alcoholism and I felt powerless over that reality. I could not see a brighter day, a happy future, I could only see the sadness that was the inevitability of my addiction winning the battle. Then one day, in a serious, extremely painful bout of pancreatitis ( 4th time hospitalized in a year) after the doctor telling me I am in stage 2 liver disease, have a legion on my pancreas, 2 on my kidneys, a tear in my duodenum, bleeding ulcers, and a laundry list of mental repercussions of constant abuse and self loathing, i just stopped. unless you have witnessed someone actually die from alcoholism, I was the worst case of alcoholism you would have seen. I just knew it was death or other. I chose other. And with that call to ACTION snowballed positive decision after positive decision. I exercise on a regular basis, I started intermittent fasting which has done wonders for my physical health and self esteem. I started this blog which has propelled my life and daily actions forward into the realm of positivity and focus. The reason I’m saying all of this is to hope that I can be a beacon of hope to anyone struggling that thinks. Oh im too far into my addiction or I’m too fat and out of shape to start getting healthy. There is no such thing. I was over 270 pounds bloated sack of human excrement dying on a hospital table with zero hope. Couldn’t tie my shoes without breaking my belt or bursting a button a crossed the room. For real. In my experience its never fun counting calories, eating bland foods, or if youre into weight lifting, spending all your time planning meals and eating. I own my own business and am a full time single dad and i dont have time for anything extra.

That is what lead me to pursue intermittent fasting. Ever since i started fasting 16 hours and eating my meals in an 8hour window not only have i been able to see a dramatic increase in muscle gain, ive also cut fat in record time. I have better mentle clarity and im able to focus on tasks unlike ever before.

Fat loss is great, but it isn’t the only benefit of fasting. Intermittent fasting makes your day simple.

I’m big on simplicity, and reducing stress. Intermittent fasting provides additional simplicity to my life that I really enjoy. When I wake up, I don’t worry about breakfast. I just grab a glass of water then usually a dark black cup of joe and start my day. How do we find a Solution to the worlds biggest problems?.

If you are anything like me you cant help but think, how can one person make a change? How can i make a difference i am only one person. The time to change that perspective is now. You are not only a person. You are a person with access to a device that reaches the world. And you have access to every product on the planet givin the right dollar amount.. But if im going to play a part in the solution, what part do i want to play? If im going to fix a problem, what problems do i want to fix?. Im definetly not here to repair celebrity relationships or tell you where to get the hottest dress to walk the red carpet with. I tried fixing peoples homes with a remodeling company. I failed because it wasnt my passion and frankly dont know a thing about it. I just wanted more money, going after the money didnt seem to work when i didnt have knowledge of what i was doing. So i switched my focus. What can i do that i feel passionate about?.

I want to fix the worlds problems. The actual problems. I started figuring out what those were. Then I  remembered when I was young and ambitious I dreamt of  involving myself in third world countries where I would provide them with clean drinking water and a way to dispose of waste properly. I remembered wanting to start a community garden and actually  bought things to start one but lacked ambition and funding to get it going..  We are beyond a time where these things are a necessity in many places now.

Nearly half (48.8%) of the survey participants chose climate change as their top concern, and 78.1% said they would be willing to change their lifestyle to protect the environment. There is a reason for that. Environmental degradation.

A huge part of Environmental degradation is Water degradation. According to Wikiliks; Approximately only 2.5% of all of the water on Earth is fresh water, with the rest being salt water. 69% of fresh water is frozen in ice caps located on Antarctica and Greenland, so only 30% of the 2.5% of fresh water is available for consumption. Fresh water is an exceptionally important resource, since life on Earth is ultimately dependent on it. Water transports nutrients, minerals and chemicals within the biosphere to all forms of life, sustains both plants and animals, and moulds the surface of the Earth with transportation and deposition of materials.

The current top three uses of fresh water account for 95% of its consumption; approximately 85% is used for irrigation of farmland, golf courses, and parks, 6% is used for domestic purposes such as indoor bathing uses and outdoor garden and lawn use, and 4% is used for industrial purposes such as processing, washing, and cooling in manufacturing centers. It is estimated that one in three people over the entire globe are already facing water shortages, almost one-fifth of the world population live in areas of physical water scarcity, and almost one quarter of the world’s population live in a developing country that lacks the necessary infrastructure to use water from available rivers and aquifers. Water scarcity is an increasing problem due to many foreseen issues in the future, including population growth, increased urbanization, higher standards of living, and climate change. This is why water filters need to be accessible to everyone. Other than water being a huge problem. The number of hungry people in the world has increased over the last few years. One in nine people in the world go hungry on a regular basis, and, as a result, suffer from nutritional deficiencies. Food security is the largest threat to the overall health of the population of man kind, even more than malaria, tuberculosis or HIV. images (49).jpeg

So, what is the problem? How can it be 2019 and people are still going hungry?

The problem is not that we are not producing enough food (although this may become a problem in the future), but that people lack access to food. Not having enough money to obtain basic food supplies and not being able to grow our own food are the two main causes of being unable to acquire food. At the root of all these problems is conflict.

While hunger has steadily decreased over the past ten years, over the last few of these years  an upsurge of conflict has doubled the number of refugees in the world.barn-3374440_960_720.jpg

Farmers need to abandon their land to save themselves and their families. Once these farmers reach a safer location, they have no land rights, which means they can’t grow crops. These refugees then need to purchase more highly priced exported foods. When they don’t have enough money, families don’t eat. They dont have the luxury of stealing a package of steak if they are starving. Or hitting a food bank. They dont have state funded programs giving them foodstamps. They simply just do not eat.

Even though approximately 11% of the world is undernourished, more people, about 40% of the adult population, are overweight.

No country in the world has seen any kind of decrease in obesity rate. Even with starvation being as prevalent as it is. In fact, it is rising among both children and adults. While it is the easy rout to think of obesity as a form of ‘over-nutrition’, it is actually another kind of malnutrition. Withholding necessary nutrients to replace them with convenience and flavor. People consume nutrient deficient, high-carb, preservative-rich prepacked sugar filled garbage food and hold on to unhealthy weight as a result. Causing a laundry list of illnesses and disorders including diabetes, cancer, blood disorders, heart disease and stroke. When we talk about hunger, we’re not just talking about access to food, but also access to nutrients. In order to thrive, humans need a range of foods providing a variety of essential nutrients. Poor families often rely on just one or two staple foods— like corn or wheat — which means they’re not getting enough of critical macronutrients like protein, and they’re also missing out on lots of important vitamins and minerals. The less nutritious a person’s diet, the poorer their health will be, the less sustainable energy they will have, and the less likely they will be to break the poverty-hunger cycle. This is especially important for women and young children: Nutrition support during pregnancy and up to the age of five can help protect children for their entire lives, reducing the likelihood of disease, poor health, and cognitive impairment.

Besides malnutrition, there are many other issues affecting health on a global scale. In the past, the main topic of focus had been communicable diseases such as hepatitis, cholera, malaria, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS.

Increased access to clean water and improved education around proper sanitation has resulted in an overall decrease in the prevalence of transferable diseases worldwide. However, this does not mean that efforts to improve sanitation should be discontinued or slowed down by any means, only that what is currently being done to prevent disease is actually working.

The focus of the global healthcare community has now shifted to non-communicable diseases like cancer, diabetes, chronic respiratory and cardiovascular diseases as well as road traffic injuries and deaths. Communicable diseases now kill 70% of persons and low-income countries are the most severely affected. While it is still important to focus on teaching proper hygiene practices, the importance of good nutritional education and preventing personal harm is now being emphasized.

I believe there is no better time to educate people about what foods effect what parts of their body and mind. Explaining the dangers of a sugar filled diet, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking tobacco, using unsafe cooking fuels, driving recklessly and walking across a busy highway, not having the proper lighting while jogging or bicycling is imperative. So many deaths are a direct result of a preventable ,uneducated decision /choice.

In most low-income countries emergency response is not of the highest standards, which means that empowering individuals in the local community with first aid and the access to clean water and knowledge of how to grow food can help to save lives. download (14).jpeg

The UN tackles the problems of health and well-being under UNSDG 3 and the World Health Organisation (WHO) oversees the objectives set under this goal.

GVI helps to further the aims of UNSDG 3 through their healthcare projects. Their healthcare projects are available in Thailand, South Africa, Nepal, Mexico and India. These projects are mostly educational.

We have a need to conduct workshops with students and community members to teach them about preventative healthcare practices. Not how to vaccinate and hope for the best and buy cough syrup by the gallon when it fails and you get sick anyway.

These type of workshops like WASH (Water and Sanitation for Health) classes where they are taught about the importance of washing hands and brushing teeth as well as healthy cooking and eating workshops.
We need to promote the importance of daily exercise. A huge reason people are more susceptible to illness is poor health and fitness. We also need to focus on maternal and child health as well as first aid workshops.https://bit.ly/2RhBw82

Since it is unlikely we are going to change the content in our public schools or change the curriculum and force the adjenda that these things are important to focus on we are blessed with the platforms of the internet and social media to be able to come together and focus on the needs of the many. A movement that really hit close to my heart was the The Dakota Access Pipeline or Bakken pipeline.

The Dakota access pipeline is a 1,172-mile-long underground oil pipeline in the United States. It begins in the shale oil fields of the Bakken formation in northwest North Dakota and continues through South Dakota and Iowa to an oil terminal near Patoka, Illinois. This is an example of people coming together against a raging system that is destroying agriculture and i am aware it is a little off topic however i feel necessary to mention as it pertains to adversity when people stand up for what is right and what is good for the health and welbeing of millions of people but get brutally stomped out by big money. The reason it hit me so hard is because I understand the need for clean water. I understand what the suix tribes and local natives were protecting  and are continueing to  protect. The right to clean drinking water out weighs the right to profit. Especially when we have so many other options of feul and products like hemp to replace plastics that we no longer even need to frack or use crued oil. Its as old as the ideals of the politicians perpetuating the behaviors that WILL lead to our demise. And as necessary.

The pipeline was built and will one day leak and those percentages of available drinkable water will go down dramatically and we will be left wanting. Because we let the needs of the few destroy the lives of the many. So if we are not able to change their behaviors we at least need to take responsibility and need to change ours. We can educate eachother and teach our children to grow food. Teach them about alkalinity and acidity. Push healthy alternatives to transportation to reduce our footprint and increase physical activity. Shorten our trip to and from our place of work and build a community that helps tend a garden that feeds everyone and promotes self sustainability. That community can be on the internet and the garden can be information. However its attainable for you.

There are tons of benefits to having a community garden: stronger sense of community, promoting healthy eating, learning what it really takes to grow your food. It’s also a great way to make gardening a possibility for those living in urban homes with less yard room, and to create a healthy town center for citizens of all ages.

But where should you start if you’d like a community garden of your own? I reccomend looking within your community to find out potential leaders, and if there’s any urban farming already going on in your area. You’ll need someone who’s already familiar with farming techniques and growing produce locally to make sure your community garden is truly successful. There are places like where I’m  From where you can rent a small chunk of land to grow your own garden that is overseen by a college botony group. Those places are great but sometimes not phesible for someone who already struggles to afford groceries. Schools are another great option. Reach out to your local schools that don’t have gardens to see if they have any space that they’d want to turn into a community garden. Churches also often own a lot of land and frequently have an interest in community gardening.

Malnutrition contributes to more than half of the nearly 12 million deaths of children under five in developing countries each year, and malnourished children who survive often lose precious mental capacity.

This should not be happening with how much technology we have. We can get to other planets but cant get clean water and food accrossed a sea of water and food. Explain that. However far-reaching the benefits of nutrition may be from a clinical viewpoint, ensuring good nutrition is also a matter of international law. The right to proper nutrition is most emphatically proclaimed in the UN’s 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child. Under the Convention, virtually every government in the world recognizes the right of all children to the highest attainable standard of health, specifically including the right to good nutrition. So the fact the laws are in place, practice needs to be in place.

this implies learning– and action. Action can take three forms: influencing public policy, contributing financially, and working directly with poor people.

Learn about hunger and poverty. What are the situations and hangups confronting poor people in the United States and in the rest of the world, and what are the underlying factors causing their hunger and poverty? An important  step to helping poor people is to increase your understanding through learning. While it is, in general, not possible to support individual poor families, it is possible to contribute to organizations that do support poor people. We have all of the resources and the information to fix world hunger and provide clean drinkable water to the world. The question is will we do anything about it. I hope everyone gets to see a day without wanting or lacking basic nutrition and the comforts of water and shelter.

Stress! It might be the cause to your problem thats causing you stress.

stress-symbol-300x239.jpgYeah sounds silly, and it is. How can stress be whats causing me stress? Well lets dive into what stress is.

Pressure or tention exerted on a material object.

While this is the definition pertaining to physical objects, it can also be true for ones emotions. Take the pressure of getting up for work or the tension at home because your significant other holds you to a standard that you dont stand a chance ever reaching. Society tells you you’re not good enough but you never feel like you have been givin a fair oppertunity to show your true value because you have been givin a value and its an hourly rate of not enough.

I will tell you. From experience. No one will ever pay you what you are worth. Because money isnt a payment for your value. Its a payment for your skills to preform a task that has a pre determined value behind it. And you have oppertunity everywhere to complete your own tasks with their own values, on your own time and for your reasons. But i digress.

Or take having kids, making sure they make it through the day properly clothed, fed and loved all while juggling the already seemingly insurmountable daily activities forced upon you by society and its standards.

What types of stress are their?

Given that stress has been linked as a co-factor in 95% of all diseases, a keystone of holistic, an alternative way to health and healing is learning how to effectively manage stress. This learning process begins with recognizing or identifying four specific types of stress affecting you and how these stressors are showing up or manifesting as symptoms in your life.

Stress factors fall into four types of categories:

physical stress,

psychological stress,

psychosocial stress,

psychospiritual stress.

Physical stress: trauma (injury, infection, surgery), intense physical labor/over-exertion, environmental pollution (pesticides, herbicides, toxins, heavy metals, inadequate light, too much friggin light, radiation, NOISE thats a big one for me, electromagnetic fields), illness (viral, bacterial, or fungal agents), fatigue, inadequate oxygen supply, hypoglycemia I (low blood sugar), hormonal and/or biochemical imbalances, dietary stress (nutritional deficiencies, food allergies and sensitivities, unhealthy eating habits), dehydration, substance abuse, dental challenges, and musculoskeletal misalignments/imbalances.

Psychological stress: emotional stress (resentments, fears, frustration, sadness, anger, grief/bereavement), cognitive stres (information overload, accelerated sense of time, worry, guilt, shame, jealousy, resistance, attachments, self-criticism, self-loathing, unworkable perfectionism, anxiety, panic attacks, not feeling like yourself, not feeling like things are real, and a sense of being out of control/not being in control), and perceptual stress (beliefs, roles, stories, attitudes, world view).

Psychosocial stress:relationship/marriage difficulties (partner, siblings, children, family, employer, co-workers, employer), lack of social support, lack of resources for adequate survival, loss of employment/investments/savings, loss of loved ones, bankruptcy, home foreclosure, and isolation.

Psycho-spiritual stress: A crisis of values, meaning, and purpose; joyless striving (instead of productive, satisfying, meaningful and fulfilling work; and a misalignment withn one’s core spiritual beliefs.

Overall, improperly or ineffectively managed stress usually takes a toll on the body. And if they continue over a long period of time can become very detrimental to your health.

When stress-related feelings, moods, emotions are pushed into the body,  this is usually termed psychosomatic or psychogenic illness, including headaches, heart palpitations, physical/cognitive/emotional pain and suffering, constricted throat and shallow, constricted breathing, clammy palms, fatigue, nausea, anxiety, allergies, asthma, autoimmune syndromes related to an ineffective functioning of the immune system, hypertension (high blood pressure), and gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, upset stomach, duodenal ulcers and esophageal reflux syndrome.

Prolonged stress can result in suppressed immune function, increased susceptibility to infectious and immune-related diseases and cancer. Emotional stress can also result in hormonal imbalances (adrenal, pituitary, thyroid, etcetera) that further interfere with healthy immune functioning.

In my oppinion most of this stress is caused by stress its self. We have convinced ourselves in and out of so many problems in our lives. Take for example the fracking in Antarctica, there is a percieved problem ie not having enough oil. So that stress caused a series of events to fix this non exsistant “problem” by drilling for more in a location people dont agree with. I dis agree with the use of crude oil to begin with but you didnt ask my stamd point on fracking. So these people (Green peace) take their stress caused by stress caused by stress and they get in a giant boat feuled by the exsact behavior they are protesting in turn adding to the neccesity of the proccess they are protesting. Sounds stressfull and counter productive. But thats the dumb stuff we do everyday.

So what are ways to reduce stress?

The top of my list is canabis. But thats not for everyone. Productivity would be the most effective in my oppinion. Why? Because getting things accomplished makes you feel a whole lot better than thinking about all the stuff you have to do and havnt done. Sounds simple. Just get off your butt and do stuff.

But stress can cause issues with the thyroid causeing weight gain therefore resulting in heart failure. Being over weight is also stressfull. Trying to tie your shoes is a chore depending on how severe. (Personal experience) so it is easy to say that these feelings are induced by ones personal decisions.

So other than action itself what actions can you take to reduce stress.

1. Take a walk.

Walks have been known to help clear the mind and are also good for keeping healthy. Once again these go hand in hand.

There are lots of scented candles out there that can relax you. Lavender, frankencence, eucalyptus, pepermint. I use all of these essential oils as well. They are a part of my supplement package. I take them as seriously as a multi vitamin. Because of how detrimental stress can be for muscle repair. And over all mood.

3. Take a nap.

Ya have a kid? Is that kid grumpy when its tired? Doesnt it help to put the kid down for a nap? Well sorry to tell you, we are just big kids. In fact. We have more of a need for naps because much more is required of us. Find a way to incorporate a nap in here and there. Your mind body and soul will thank you.

4. Play with your pet

Sometimes we just need physical interaction and seaking it from humans comes with its own stressors and potential let downs. And your animal is sittin there waiting for the interaction. Love eachother. It helps lower stress.

5. Turn off your tv and put down your phone.

Take a break from technology. Like i expressed earlier, lights, noise, unecessary information all lead to stress. And all youre going to get from a screen are these things. What your third cousin made for her husband for dinner will still be on facebook later, im sure it can wait.

6. Spend time in nature.

My favorite place to be is in the woods at the edge of a cliff. No person in site for miles.

7. Eat healthy foods

Diet has a huge impact on how we feel. Too much caffine and too much calcium actually shortens the gap between Neuro transmitters and causes a quicker reaction between what has happened and your response. Think of how that can negatively effect your life. Food is you. You are food. So if youre eating garbage guess what. So pay attention to what you put into your body.
